EnergyCAP's Report Designer

You Wanted It and Now It's Here! [Watch the Video]

Your Tool for Creating Ad Hoc Energy Reports

Do you wish you could edit an existing EnergyCAP report to get it just the way you want it? Need to create a custom energy report for an upcoming meeting or for monthly distribution? Now, with EnergyCAP’s new Report Designer ad hoc reporting module, you can do both by tapping into your in-house Excel experience and expertise.

Secure Access to Current Data

Report Designer is an Excel® Add-in that works by importing data right from your EnergyCAP database into Excel via the power of our evolving Application Programming Interfaces, or APIs. In EnergyCAP Online Version 4 releases, APIs form the basis of all application functionality. A one-time Report Designer setup sequence installs the new Excel ribbon feature that provides a direct link to your EnergyCAP database.

Report Designer retrieves your EnergyCAP data – recognizing EnergyCAP user rights – and creates a sophisticated data model utilizing Excel’s powerful built-in functionality. Once the data has been retrieved and the data model has been created, you can use existing Excel functionality, such as PivotTables and PivotCharts, to build your own reports.

If you are an Excel power user, you will especially enjoy using PowerPivot to browse and extend the data model to incorporate your own custom data. Or, if you prefer not to get too deep, you can use or tweak a library of provided Report Designer templates to get the data and presentation you want.

Features to Note

  • User-friendly. utility data can be challenging, but Report Designer was designed to be user-friendly. With a few mouse clicks, you can obtain detailed information about your Places, Meters, Accounts, Cost Centers, or Bills.
  • Easy filtering. Easy filtering options enable you to pull only the data and date ranges you need. Roll-up info for Places and Cost Centers, and/or commodity-by-commodity use and cost breakdowns are a breeze to produce.
  • UDFs welcome. EnergyCAP User-Defined Field values are available for added reporting dimensions, and even detailed bill line items can be retrieved for granular reporting.
  • Always up-to-date. Once you’ve created your powerful EnergyCAP report in Excel, you can update the report as needed by simply refreshing your source data. And if you want to keep things lightweight for report distribution, you can send out just the report framework. Recipients can refresh the report with current data with a mouse click.
